 Bobbed hair

Just as hemlines shorten during the 1920s, hair lengths did as well. Many flappers adopted the bobbed hairstyle. For a long time, long hair was the symbol of womanhood. Before WWI, long hair was the mark of a respectable woman, but during the 1920s bobbed hair became the new trend. [39] Bobbed hair was somewhat boyish, reflecting women’s increased independence. Women obtained freedoms, such as the ability to vote, that men already had thus making them closer to becoming equal to men. On a more practical note, bobbed hair made dancing easier for flappers because they did not have to worry about longer hair getting in the way. Bobbed hair, however was not always embraced. Many jobs even fired woman for having bobbed haircuts. [40]
